Graduate School - Recommended undergraduate curriculum

Students interested in pursuing graduate education should develop their strength in chemistry as soon as possible and should set up an appointment with an academic advisor to effectively plan their schedule.  Students who plan to attend graduate school in microbiology, biochemistry or a related field in molecular biological sciences are recommended to include the following courses in their schedule:  MAC 2312, Calculus 2 (4 credits); MAC 2313, Calculus 3, (4 credits); Statistics (3 credits), CHM 3218, Organic/Biochemistry 2 (4 credits) to fulfill the biochemistry requirement; PCB 5235, Immunology (3 credits) to fulfill the pathogens or immunology requirement; MCB 4304, Genetics of Microorganisms (3 credits), or PCB 4522, Molecular Genetics (3credits) to fulfill the genetics requirement; MCB 5136L, Techniques Advanced Lab (3 credits), or MCB 5303L, Microbial Genetics Lab (2 credits) to fulfill the microbiology advanced lab requirement; and MCB 4403, Prokaryotic Cell Structure (3 credits), CHM 3400, Physical Chemistry (3 credits), and one other 3 credit department elective to fulfill the 10 credit microbiology elective requirment.  Genomic Sequincing (3 credits) is recommended.

In addition, the student should include MCB 4905, Undergraduate Research course work in their schedule in order to gain laboratory research experience.
