    Connect With MCS

Welcome to the University of Florida Department of Microbiology and Cell Science in sunny Gainesville, Florida, home of the Gators. Our department brings together esteemed scientists, industry professionals, world-renowned researchers and award-winning mentors training the next generation of scientists across a full academic pathway from bachelor’s through master’s and Ph.D. programs, along with specialized graduate certificates.

We offer undergraduate and graduate programs, including fully online options designed for working professionals and career-driven students. On-campus students train in newly renovated laboratories using advanced tools such as confocal microscopy and mass spectrometry, while online learners engage through structured, technology-supported coursework that supports real-world skill development and applied learning beyond the traditional lab setting.

Whether you are exploring your first degree or advancing your expertise in microbiology, our team is here to help you identify the right program, format and next step.

Explore our programs and research across the site, or connect directly with our advising team for personalized guidance.

    • Meet with program-specific advisors to determine the right educational plans that meet your goals
    • Once enrolled, advisors can help select specific classes to ensure you're on the right track (some programs do not require this as classes are pre-determined)

*Currently, our "book a call" feature only supports graduate programs. For undergraduates support, please reach out to appropriate advisors who can be found on our People page.
