Discover the Microbes That Influence Human Health
Microbes are everywhere. In us, on us and throughout the world around us. The microbiome is the community of bacteria, viruses, archaea and fungi that live within and on larger organisms, and understanding these communities is driving research across human health, biotechnology and the life sciences.
UF’s 12-credit Microbiome and Health graduate certificate provides focused, graduate-level training in the human microbiome, host-microbe interactions, microbial ecology, genomics and sequencing. The program is fully online and asynchronous, giving you the flexibility to complete coursework when and where it works for you. Coursework also explores probiotics, antimicrobial resistance, microbiome-based therapies and computational approaches, including AI applications in life sciences, R programming for DNA sequencing and large-scale genomic data analysis.
Add specialized microbiome expertise to your science background, prepare for microbiome-focused careers or build toward further graduate study. The certificate can also complement UF’s online M.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science, giving you the opportunity to pair focused microbiome training with a broader master’s degree.
Graduation Requirements
- 13 credits are required to complete the certificate
- Only courses completed with a grade of C or higher can be counted towards the certificate
- Students must maintain both a 3.0 GPA in certificate courses (a lower GPA will result in academic probation and possible dismissal from the program)
