Interested in a career in clinical microbiology? The hybrid Clinical Laboratory Microbiologist (CLM) Graduate Certificate gives you specialized training in clinical microbiology, with hands-on experience and professional preparation to put your science to work in the clinical laboratory.
This 18-credit hybrid graduate certificate combines advanced coursework with real-world clinical training in areas including clinical bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, immunology, antimicrobial resistance and clinical microbiology laboratory methods. It is the first Medical Laboratory Microbiologist program in the U.S. accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
The best part? Pair the CLM with UF's online M.S. in Medical Microbiology & Biochemistry with the CLM in as few as 34 total credits.
For out-of-state students, pairing the CLM with the M.S. can also make a significant difference in cost. Instead of paying the standalone out-of-state CLM tuition rate, the combined pathway brings the cost of the CLM coursework down substantially. Based on current tuition rates, adding the CLM to the M.S. costs approximately 78% less than pursuing the CLM as a standalone certificate for an out-of-state student.

*The hybrid Clinical Laboratory Microbiologist graduate certificate includes two required in-person components: a 5-day on-site lab bootcamp and a two-week clinical internship. Internship placements are arranged near the student's place of residence whenever possible. Completion in Gainesville is not required. Additionally, in-state tuition is not offered with the CLM as a standalone credential. However, pairing the CLM with the M.S. qualifies you for in-state tuition.
