MCB 6772 Advanced Topics in Cell Biology

    • Credits: 1
    • Prerequisites: microbiology
    • When offered: Fall
    • Syllabus: MCB 6772 Advanced Topics in Cell Biology

    Description

Specific topics on cell structure and function, as reported in recent journal articles of interest to microbiology, will be studied, including animal and plant systems. The specific topic for this semester will be cell-surface receptors. We will discuss how cell-surface receptors were discovered and how they transmit extracellular signals. The role of cell surface receptors in host-microbe interactions will be the focus of this semester.

    Course Goals

    • To develop an understanding of current advances and approaches in the study of the cell biology of eukaryotes.
    • To gain insight into the differences between plants and animals, particularly in terms of their susceptibility or capacity to resist microbial pathogens.
