How Is UF More Affordable?

The University of Florida's online M.S. was designed specifically for flexible online graduate education rather than adapted from a residential program. Combined with UF's public university mission and flat-rate tuition model, students receive an R1 graduate education at a significantly lower cost than many comparable programs.

Base Tuition at a Glance

Dollar-for-dollar, UF's M.S. in Microbiology & Cell Science delivers more degree per dollar than any comparable program.

Invest More in Your Career. Less in Tuition.

Choosing a graduate program isn't only about today's tuition bill. It's about the opportunities your degree creates after graduation.

By keeping tuition affordable, UF helps students graduate with greater financial flexibility to pursue doctoral study, attend scientific conferences, earn professional certifications, relocate for new opportunities or invest in their careers instead of paying down unnecessary debt.

Understanding This Comparison

Every university included here offers a respected graduate education. Our comparison is about value and accessibility, not prestige rankings alone. These programs differ in curriculum, delivery format and research focus, so this comparison is intended to help prospective students evaluate overall cost and accessibility.

Many peer institutions primarily serve full-time, campus-based students and price accordingly. UF's program was designed specifically for online graduate education, allowing students to earn the same University of Florida master's degree while continuing their careers from anywhere.

*The hybrid Clinical Laboratory Microbiologist graduate certificate includes two required in-person components: a 5-day on-site lab bootcamp and a two-week clinical internship. Internship placements are arranged near the student's place of residence whenever possible. Completion in Gainesville is not required. Additionally, in-state tuition is not offered with the CLM as a standalone credential. However, pairing the CLM with the M.S. qualifies you for in-state tuition.
